Introduction to Photography
An 8-week course guaranteed to give you a solid foundation in the basics of photography, equipping you with the knowledge and understanding to launch you on your own journey. Every session includes detailed instruction (with complete notes and examples provided), practice opportunities (bring your camera gear), review of images made by students, and more. Two Saturday field trips included for a total of 10 sessions. The first four sessions go into complete detail on the basics of exposure (aperture, shutter speed and ISO) as well as learning what all the buttons and dials on your camera and lenses are for. The second four sessions apply all of this knowledge to learning how to compose effective people and landscape photos.
This course is offered in the Fall and Winter on Tuesday and Thursdays.
This course is an extension of the introductory course, also 8 weeks, with a focus on effective use of flash for portraiture, night photography, HDR, learning to see, and more. Some sessions are in the classroom, some are on location. Models are part of some sessions. Practice opportunities are provided in every session. The course includes one Saturday outing in addition to the eight sessions. Students who have not had the introductory course but have a good understanding of basic exposure settings are welcome.
This course is offered in the spring (March to May) on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Introduction to Lightroom
Lightroom is the software solution for photographers. Lightroom allows you to store your photos, edit them extensively, and share them with others. This course, which takes place over two Saturdays, offers complete instruction in all you need to know to manage your growing collection of images, edit them to maximize the potential of each, and then share them with others. Includes electronic and printed notes from each lesson to keep as a reference.
This two-Saturday course is offered throughout the year. Each day goes from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm and includes an unforgettable lunch!
I am also available for one to one instructional sessions. Our time together will depend entirely on your needs and goals and so is completely customized to maximize your growth. A 90 minute session is available for $100. Each session includes:
- discussion about your goals followed by instruction tailored to you, at a suitable location.
- a follow-up email with notes reviewing the key points of the session.
- an invitation to contact me in the future for help with any photographic question or problem.
Please email Dennis for details or to set up your first session.
